Double Shrubble 1

Now we're a couple of guys from the Midwest
And here's a taste of the things we do best
Turn it on, turn it off, be our guest
You'd do it anyway
Now, if we had any message for you
Then you'd think about it, and it wouldn't come true
'Cause we have the slanted horizontal view
That makes no sense.

A Swimming Lesson
06:52

Last night I had the craziest dream
I poked a hole in my waterbed
Suddenly I was inside a boat
Into the river that was my bed
Out through the door, out into the yard, the whole street was a river of love.
It seemed to take me in
River begin
(So all the boats in the street were supposed to race...the world was water except for one island...everyone was racing toward this island far away...at least five guys wanted to kill me...that i knew about)
Twenty guys right beside me, and a million more lagging behind
In the wake of the waterbed that had gushed in the middle of my mind
Twenty guys just like me, had hit the beach and we could see
It was inevitable - the giant battle
I woke up in a terrible daze, I found myself on the island alone
Seems the water had disappeared, how the size of the island had grown
It had changed into something that even I couldn't understand
A metamorposis on the premises
All of a sudden my leg twitched, and I knew I was on my bed
All that stuff about an island had taken place inside of my head
Then heard from the room next door, my baby crying for something more
It's such a mystery

For Square's Sake

Animal all its own / Still alive while it rests
City with stream that breaks through the cracks and buildings and streetlights
No time to get ahead, out the blue, just got back
Hey, how's the family? Buy you a drink.
What you see is all not a game of four square
Time...strange...things...place
What did you do today? Magnificent colors were had
Saw a movie earlier, wasn't half bad
Now stranger things have happened, that's probably true
Or else I wouldn't be sitting here thinking, drinking and talking to you
What you see is all not a game of four square
Time...strange...things...place

Green Beans

Think its time for some green beans
Haven't had 'em in a while
Boy, I sure could use some vegetables
That would surely make me smile
It's an inexpensive dinner, and they're so easy to cook
So when's the last time you had some green beans?
Think it's time you took a look
Singing, green beans for dinner
My mom, she makes the greatest green beans
She fixes them with gravy and pork chops
They're small and plump and so delicious
You just eat one and you never stop
So come on over and have some green beans
Well, I guess I could spare a few
It's not like you're eating a dead animal
And it wouldn't be the same if they were blue
Singing, green beans for dinner

No News From Home
06:12
|
|||
Had some chicken salad, a healthy lunch today
Tomorrow's job is different than yesterday
Here comes a pretty lady, dressed in a tablecloth
Takes a confident person to pull it off
There's no news from home, whether or not it's the first time
It's very pointillistic, if you know what I mean
Like to drive my car, cruise it down the highway
Like to stay home and cook, but it never turns out that way
We're gonna plant a garden, watch how it grows
We'll work and play and squish the dirt between our toes
There's no news from home, whether or not it's the first time
It's very pointillistic, if you know what I mean
He's going to work, his family waits for him there
HIs wife has this strange obsession with her hair
Looks at some pictures when he was young
And wonders what it has all become
There's no news from home, whether or not it's the first time
It's very pointillistic whatever that means

Psychotic Funkhaus
04:16
|
|||
The door opens, in you walk, into another world
Feel the beat pumping in the heat, see the boys and girls
You casually approach the bar, you catch the bartender's eye
No one ever gets there, but tonight, you're gonna try
Crazy music like you've never heard,
moves your body and mind
Somehow can't remember when you've had as good a time
It's the psychotic funkhaus
Welcome to the funkhaus
Lights flash in a rhythmic dash, the room smokes hauntingly
Can't even begin to tell you what this place has done to me
My head is spinning, what can it be?
A groove so funky, like a magnet pulling me
All the people in here psychotic, and they stare through the night
At the mirror ball spinning in orbit, and the flashing strobe light

Say a Prayer
05:32
|
|||
Phone is ringing everywhere, time is rushing by
Thousands flock to see the game
Stakes are stacked so high
Corporate greed blowing down your street
Many more, rich and poor
Millions of homeless still can't eat
See their home's a dirty floor
Rich and poor
Hate and greed, we'll have no more
Revolution in the east, bedlam everywhere
Won't you say a prayer so we make our children understand
What is wrong
Martial law does not belong
Crime, injustice everywhere
Won't you please, say a prayer?
Fall is coming, things will die, life begins anew
Freedom makes us all unite, tell the children what to do
Overcome ignorance on the run
We must cling to hope with two hands
Learn to live with our fellow man
Do you think that we can?
I don't know...

Shrubbery St. Louis, Missouri
Nick Barbieri and Mike Schrand formed Shrubbery as a bar band playing covers. When that died, they made Shrubbery into a recording duo and made one album. This is that album.
